Crafting Custom Jewellery: From Inspiration to Elegance

Updated: Jan 30

Every piece of jewellery is a masterpiece waiting to be unveiled. We take pride in our commitment to craftsmanship, and our process of creating custom jewellery is a journey that begins with your vision and ends with an exquisite, one-of-a-kind piece. In this blog post, we'll walk you through the steps of crafting custom works of art, from the initial design inspiration to the final polishing, gem-setting and more.

Step 1: Design Confirmation

The journey of creating custom jewellery starts with a spark of inspiration. It could be an image found online, a cherished family heirloom, a sketch you've dreamed of, or simply an idea in your mind. Our first step is to sit down with you and confirm the design based on your inspiration. We work closely with you to understand your preferences, incorporating your ideas into the design.

Step 2: CAD Visual Rendering

Once the design is confirmed, we bring it to life with cutting-edge technology. Our skilled designers use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software to create a 3D visual rendering of your custom jewellery. This allows you to see a detailed representation of the piece before it's physically crafted. We take great care to ensure that every detail matches your vision, from the intricate filigree work to the placement of gemstones. At this stage any changes or adjustments can be made to the renderings as

you see fit. It's important to remember that renderings may often appear slightly bulkier or thicker than the finished piece will be. This is because we account for some extra metal that will be grinded and polished during the goldsmithing stages.

Step 3: Wax Printing

With the CAD visual rendering approved, we move on to the next stage: wax printing. A precise wax model of your jewellery is created using 3D printing technology. This wax model serves as the blueprint for the metal casting process and allows for an incredibly accurate final piece.

Step 4: Casting of the Metal

We offer a selection of high-quality metals, including platinum, rose gold, yellow gold and white gold. Our skilled artisans carefully melt the chosen metal and pour it into the mold created from the wax model. This step requires precision and expertise to ensure that the metal takes on the desired form. Mandia Jewellery has its own casting house that they work exclusively with, allowing you to choose anywhere from 10k-24k gold or platinum, ensuring the finest selection of metals for jewellery.

Step 5: Goldsmithing

Once the metal has been cast and cooled, our goldsmiths take over. They meticulously work on shaping and refining the metal, adding intricate details, and ensuring the structural integrity of the piece. This is where the jewelry truly takes its shape and begins to embody the unique design you envisioned.

Step 6: Polishing

After the goldsmithing process, the jewellery undergoes a thorough polishing. This step enhances the shine and luster of the metal, giving it a radiant finish. Our attention to detail during the polishing stage ensures that your custom piece gleams with elegance.

Step 7: Gemsetting

If your custom jewelry includes gemstones, this is the stage where they are carefully set. Our skilled gemsetters use their expertise to secure each gemstone in its place, making sure they are both secure and beautifully showcased. From diamonds to semi-precious gemstones, our gemsetters are masters at their craft, ensuring each stone is meticulously set with the most secure setting.

Step 8: Final Polishing A final round of polishing is performed to bring out the brilliance of the gemstones and to ensure that every aspect of the piece is flawless. This step adds the finishing touches to your custom jewellery, ensuring it's ready to shine brilliantly. Some jewellers may skip this step to save time and cut corners, however, at Mandia Jewellery we always insist this crucial step is carried out in every creation we craft.

Step 9: Your One-of-a-Kind Creation is Complete

From the initial design confirmation to the final polishing, every step of crafting a custom piece at Mandia Jewellery is a testament to our dedication to artistry and precision.
